This species of mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus, can transmit West Nile virus, Japanese encephalitis virus, and avian malaria, among other diseases. The researchers who took this video optimized the gene-editing tool CRISPR for Culex quinquefasciatus that could ultimately help stop the mosquitoes from spreading pathogens.
