Ronald Adkins, Ph.D., is a program director in the Genetic Mechanisms Branch in the Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, where he administers research grants in the areas of population genetics, evolution, and transcriptional mechanisms. He was formerly a program director in the Office of Research Infrastructure Programs in the NIH Office of the Director and a scientific review officer at the NIH Center for Scientific Review.
Adkins came to NIH from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he was an associate professor in the department of pediatrics. Before that, he was an assistant professor in the department of biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He earned a B.S. in zoology from Oklahoma State University and a Ph.D. in genetics from Texas A&M University. Adkins conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan and the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
