Session I. Accomplishments of the PSI

Chairs: Peter Preusch and Jeremy Berg
Moderators: John Moult and Ed Lattman
Reporters: Emily Carlson, Alison Davis, Juliana Blome

Agenda: Goals for the annual meeting. Welcome, introductions, announcements. Planning for capture and dissemination of the overall contributions of PSI-1 and PSI-2. Final year management matters to be resolved to bring PSI-2 to a close. Plans for additional meetings, publications, final progress reports, and PSI-2 final assessment.

Key Areas to Address:

  1. Enabling technology
  2. Cost per structure
  3. Structural coverage
  4. What did we learn about protein structure?
  5. What did we learn about the evolution of genes and protein structures?
  6. What did we learn about modeling protein structure from gene sequences?
  7. Over what universe of gene sequence/protein structure can we declare victory?
  8. What else did we learn?
  9. What has been the impact to date?
  10. What is the projected impact over the next decade?

December 9, 2009, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Summary Discussion: 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Objective: There are 14 currently funded center PIs, each should have an opportunity to discuss most recent progress, but more importantly each should focus on the over-riding take-home lessons from the entire PSI effort. These talks will provide the flesh to fill-out the bullet points established the previous evening. They should also elaborate plans for capture and dissemination of these take-home lessons. These talks may also usefully point to future directions in structural genomics.

Adjourn for Transportation to Hotel or Walk to Restaurant

Dinner at Bangkok Garden Restaurant (St. Elmo and Norfolk) at 7:00 p.m.

December 10, 2009, 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Session IV. Steering a Course for the Future

Short Reports and Discussion

Session Chair: Wayne Hendrickson (Steering Committee Chairperson)

Steering Committee Report
Subcommittee Reports
Discussion of Final Year Objectives of PSI-2
Discussion of PSI Organizational Structures

The objective of this session is to make necessary plans for completion of the PSI-2 program and transition to PSI:Biology as effectively as possible.

  1. What functions of the Steering Committee have worked well?
  2. Which could be improved upon for PSI: Biology?
  3. What else should we be thinking about during the transition?
  4. Commitments for future activities and deliverables?
