Biographical Sketch: Chris Chao, Ph.D.

Chris Chao, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biological Chemistry, where he administers research grants in calcium signaling and compartmentalization, injury and critical illness, and adaptive immune cell mechanisms. Prior to joining NIGMS, he was a principal investigator in the Viral and Rickettsial Diseases Department, Naval Medical Research Center. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Utah State University. He conducted postdoctoral research in the Laboratory of Biochemistry, which became the current Biochemistry and Biophysics Center, at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
