Biographical Sketch: Rita Miller, Ph.D.

Rita Miller, Ph.D. is a program director in the Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, where she manages grants focused on the mechanisms of cell division. She also manages Postdoctoral T32 programs in Medical Genetics.

Prior to joining NIGMS, Miller was a professor in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at Oklahoma State University. There, she studied posttranslational modifications of microtubule-associated proteins using yeast as a research organism. She also served as a program director in the molecular and cellular biosciences division of the Directorate for Biological Sciences at the National Science Foundation.

Miller earned a B.S. in physiology from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. in cell biology from Northwestern University Medical School, where she studied the dynamics of intermediate filament proteins. She completed her postdoctoral training at Princeton University. Her research there focused on elucidating new mechanisms for orienting the mitotic spindle.
