Karen Flórez earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Hofstra University in 2001. While obtaining her master's degree in public health at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, she participated in the Initiative for Maximizing Student Development program. She continued her graduate work at the Mailman School of Public Health, where she received a
Research Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research and a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award for Individual Predoctoral Fellows. She earned a Dr.PH. from the school's department of sociomedical sciences in 2010 and is currently an associate behavioral and social scientist at the RAND Corporation.
