Diversity Program Alumni Updates: Shawn Drew Gaillard, Ph.D.

Dr. Shawn R. Drew Gaillard

Shawn Drew Gaillard earned a bachelor's degree in natural science with a concentration in chemistry in 1991 from Spelman College. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in biology in 1998 from Howard University, where she participated in the Minority Biomedical Research Support program. Drew worked as a program director in the NIGMS Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity from 2003 to 2015 after serving for three years as director of the NIH Academy. Her NIH experience also includes working as a chemist in the National Eye Institute for a couple of years after receiving her bachelor's degree, as well as doing predoctoral and postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. She is now a training officer with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
