Diversity Program Alumni Updates: Violeta Chávez, Ph.D.

Violeta Chávez was a Minority Biomedical Research Support program participant at El Paso Community College, where she earned an associate's degree in the liberal arts in 2001. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in microbiology in 2003 from University of Texas at El Paso, followed by a master's and doctoral degree in microbiology and molecular genetics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2007 and 2009, respectively. She performed postdoctoral research in the microbiology department at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York and is now an assistant professor of clinical pathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
