Program Planning, Analysis and Evaluation

NIGMS engages in program planning, analysis and evaluation activities to ensure that its research program is cohesive, well-directed and aimed at maximizing the impact of its resources and the return on investment of taxpayer dollars. These activities include:

Strategic Planning
Short- and long-range strategic planning and implementation; tracking and reporting on progress toward the achievement of strategic goals; identifying and overcoming potential barriers to success.

Strategic Plans

Portfolio Analysis
Assessments of the scientific investments of NIGMS divisions and programs to identify research gaps and emerging areas, to review systematically the breadth and depth of NIGMS scientific programs, and to foster a culture of evidence-based decision making.

Program Evaluation
Data-driven evaluations of NIGMS programs, activities and policies.
