Maximizing Investigators’ Research Awards

A researcher funded by a MIRA will not subsequently be awarded any other source of NIGMS funding with the exception of grants supporting research resources; contracts and selected cooperative agreements; grants supporting training, workforce development or diversity building; clinical trials; INBRE (P20), COBRE (P20/P30) or IDeA-CTR (U54); SEPA; SBIR/STTR; conference grants; and grants supported through NIGMS HIV/AIDS-related FOAs.

For guidelines on how NIGMS calculates budgets for Established Investigator MIRAs, see Planning to Apply for an NIGMS Established Investigator MIRA? Points to Consider and FAQs.

Typically, the budget for a MIRA Early Stage Investigator is $250,000 direct costs per year for 5 years.
