Subject: NIH Financial Policy for Fiscal Year 2006 Grant Awards

Dear Colleague,

As a follow-up to my message sent last month, I am writing to let you know that an appropriation for NIH has now been passed by the Congress and signed by the President. Based on this budget, NIH has developed policies for non-competing and competing research project grant awards (see http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-025.html).

A key point is that non-competing research project grants will be funded at 97.65% of the amount indicated for the Fiscal Year 2006 budget period in the Notice of Grant Award from the previous budget year. Non-competing research project grants already awarded in Fiscal Year 2006 at lower levels will be adjusted upward to this level. Amounts indicated for future budget periods will be adjusted as well.

See the NIGMS Fiscal Year 2006 Financial Management plan at http://www.nigms.nih.gov/About/Budget/pages/FY2006Plan.aspx (link no longer available) for more information, including the Institute’s funding policies for other grant mechanisms.
