The Non-Competing Continuation Grant Progress Report (PHS 2590) must be submitted 2 months before the beginning date of the next budget period using the PHS 2590. In addition to the PHS 2590 instructions, follow the specific instructions provided below for preparing a progress report for K-12 noncompeting continuation application.
Specific Instructions for K-12 Non-Competing Continuation Progress Report
Use Form PHS 2590 in preparing the progress report (forms and instructions are available at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms.htm) and complete the following forms:
- Face Page (Form Page 1)
- Budget Form Pages 2 and 3 (PHS 2590)
- Progress Report Summary (Form Page 5)
- All Personnel Report (all scholars eRA Commons user names should be included)
- Checklist (Form Page 6).
The progress report must include information on the development and implementation of the proposed career development program including any modifications to the career development program as originally proposed, and details about the applicant pool and the participating scholars, including their career level(s), gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds. An overview of each scholar's research accomplishments and goals for the coming year should be clearly stated. The following are examples of what must be included in the annual progress report:
- A brief introductory description of the program objectives.
- Biographical sketches of new or replacement mentors.
- Applicant pool, and details about the participating scholars, including their career level(s), gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
- Progress statements for each scholar describing the ongoing research and teaching experiences, as well as specific plans for the upcoming year. Include any information about the scholars’ efforts to obtain independent support.
- Description of course work, workshops, seminars and other activities associated with the program.
- Description of training and education in the responsible conduct of research (see details at http://grants.nih.gov/training/responsibleconduct.htm).
- Career outcomes of all scholars who have entered the program over the course of the current award.
- Overall program impact on MSI(s) in terms of courses/curriculum, pedagogy, student career outcomes and faculty research collaborations with partner MSIs.
Describe what has been learned through the program evaluation and any changes made in the program as a result of the evaluation.
The narrative part is limited to up to five pages, and numerical and other data, including scholar's publications, may be presented in tabular form (tables and figures are not counted in the five-page limit). Large tables and figures as well as the summary of annual evaluation report should be included in the appendix.
Statement of Postdoctoral Scholars Appointment
The institution must submit a completed Statement of Appointment (PHS Form 2271) for each scholar appointed for 8 weeks or more (see NIH Guide Notice NOT-GM-11-104, issued on February 18, 2011). Grantees must submit the PHS 2271 data electronically using the xTrain system. The xTrain system is accessed via the eRA Commons.
