Laura Ferrer-Wreder participated in the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) program at Barry University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in psychology in 1993. She went on to become a MARC predoctoral fellow at Florida International University, earning a master's degree in 1996 and a Ph.D. in 1998. Both degrees were in life span developmental psychology. After working as an assistant professor of psychology at Pennsylvania State University and later as an associate professor of psychology at Barry University, she is now a senior lecturer of developmental psychology at Stockholm University in Sweden.
