Renato Aguilera is a former Minority Biomedical Research Support program participant at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree in biology in 1981 and 1982, respectively. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in immunology at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1987. He later became a biology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and is now a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he also directs the Graduate Program in Biology and the university's MBRS program.
