Laurie Tompkins, Ph.D., is chief of the Genetic Mechanisms Branch in the Division of Genetics and Developmental Biology. In addition to leading the branch and managing grant portfolios in the areas of transcription and behavioral genetics, she administers the trans-NIH EUREKA initiative, which funds exceptionally innovative, potentially high-impact research. Before joining NIGMS, Tompkins was a professor in the department of biology at Temple University. She earned a B.A. in zoology from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. in biology from Princeton University. Tompkins conducted postdoctoral research at Brandeis University.
