Biographical Sketch: Fred Friedman, Ph.D.

Fred Friedman, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Biomedical Technology, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology. He manages an instrument development program as well as biomedical technology resource center and SBIR grants. Before joining NIGMS, Friedman was a program director in the Division of Biomedical Technology at the former National Center for Research Resources. He also served as a consultant for the Laboratory of Metabolism at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where he previously was a principal investigator and section chief. During his tenure at NCI, Friedman’s research focused on protein structure-function and drug metabolism. He earned a B.S. in chemistry from the City University of New York, City College, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Columbia University. Friedman conducted postdoctoral research at the former National Institute of Arthritis, Metabolism, and Digestive Diseases.
