Shawn Drew Gaillard, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity. She manages individual and institutional training programs that are aimed at increasing the number of historically underrepresented populations in the biomedical and behavioral sciences. In addition, Gaillard manages research training grants in the area of biostatistics. Prior to joining NIGMS, she served as director of the NIH Academy. Gaillard earned a B.S. in chemistry from Spelman College and a Ph.D. in biology from Howard University. She conducted predoctoral and postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, NIH.
