Ravi Basavappa, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics. He administers grants in the areas of the biophysical properties of proteins, viral attachment, assembly, fusion and budding; and structure-based design of HIV therapeutics. Basavappa is involved in other NIGMS programs, including the trans-NIH EUREKA initiative and the Protein Structure Initiative. In addition, he serves as the Institute’s AIDS coordinator. Before joining NIGMS, Basavappa was an assistant professor in the department of biochemistry and biophysics at the University of Rochester. He earned a B.S. in physics from Duke University and a Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Chicago. Basavappa conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School.
