James Anderson, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Genetics and Developmental Biology, where he administers grants on the genetics of physiological adaptation in bacteria and bacterial associations. He also serves as a program director in the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, where he manages grants in modeling and informatics. In addition, Anderson is administrative director for the Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study (MIDAS) project and helps to direct the NIGMS Centers for Systems Biology. Before coming to NIGMS, he was director of the department of microbial genetics at Crop Genetics International. Anderson earned a B.S. in biology/chemistry from the University of Dayton and a Ph.D. in bacterial physiology from Purdue University. He conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan.
Anderson is a media contact for microbiology, modeling pandemic flu, infectious disease spread and systems biology.
