The NIGMS logo combines elements of biology, a human figure, and a sense of movement and energy. The circle and dot symbolize a cell—the basic unit of life—and the ribbons that intersect in the middle evoke the remarkable and versatile molecules DNA and RNA. The shape also forms a human body, representing both the impact of research on human health and the fact that research advances are the products of human insight. Finally, the ribbons depict roads toward the horizon, signifying pathways to discovery.
