Dr. Lewis is director of the NIGMS Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics, where she oversees research and training grants that support basic studies in cell biology and biophysics. Before becoming its director, Lewis served as chief of the division's Biophysics Branch. She has played significant roles in developing and managing programs in single-molecule biophysics, nanoscience and cellular imaging.
Prior to joining NIGMS in 1989, Lewis performed research on chromosome and chromatin structure and the regulation of gene expression in the physical chemistry section of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
